Do You Really Need a Car to Get to Work?

boy driving carCars are many things. To some people, a car is a status symbol, but for someone else, it is a necessary evil. There is no denying the fact that owning a car is costly and no matter how careful you are to buy a quality auto from a Suzuki Dealer, you may well end up with a car that is unreliable and expensive to own.

The majority of people use their car to commute to work. In an ideal world, we would all hop on public transport and the roads would be virtually empty, but sadly they are not and every morning, millions of people jump into their car and fight their way to work.

Using a car to travel to work is second nature, but have you considered other transport options? Yes, a car is quick and, more often than not, convenient. But cars are also expensive, so it is worth considering other modes of transport. Here are a few ideas to help you make a decision.

Public Transport

In some countries, public transport is smooth, reliable and inexpensive. If you live in one of these countries, you are laughing because you definitely won’t need a car for the daily commute. If you are unfortunate enough to live in a country like the UK where public transport is expensive, unreliable, and definitely not smooth, oh dear. Nevertheless, it is worth pricing up the cost of buses or trains, to see if there are any cost savings to be made. You never know, the results of your calculation may be a pleasant surprise.

Car Share

Check with your colleagues to see whether any of them live nearby. If anyone does, have a chat about a car sharing arrangement. Both of you will save money and your respective vehicles will enjoy a well-earned rest 50% of the time. If nobody lives close by, join a car sharing website and look for a stranger to share the daily commute. You might even make a new friend!

Pedal Power

Bicycles are a great mode of transport. Cycling has never been so popular, thanks to high-sporting events such as the Tour de France. Millions of people own bikes, so if you have yet to take up cycling, you need to give it a go. Pedal power is an excellent way to get to work. It’s eco-friendly and you will be more productive as a result of your early morning workout. However, it probably won’t work if you live a long way from the office, unless you happen to be called Chris Froome.

Walk to Work

If you work a short distance from your home, walk to the office instead of always taking the car. Walking is good exercise and it’s a chance to unwind at the end of the day. You can also boost your vitamin D levels in the summer.

Driving to work is convenient, but there are a lot of good reasons to ditch the car. Are you brave enough?
